Board Of Directors > Bedan Ngugi

Bedan is a Junior Mechanical Engineering Student  at University of Houston who is currently the President of UHSL Formula SAE and serves as a student representative board member.

Reflecting on his journey, he vividly recalls the spring of 2021 when, as a new member of UH NSBE, he participated in setting up the wire fence at BUG. Despite the scorching Houston sun, their collective efforts persisted, fueled by a shared commitment to the cause. Witnessing the dedication of his fellow volunteers inspired him, propelling him to further engagement within NSBE and beyond, eventually leading to significant personal and professional growth, including securing his first internship at Collins Aerospace and forming enduring friendships.

It is his belief that his connection with BUG stems from a profound resonance with its mission, particularly in addressing the food desert prevalent in low-income communities within the Greater 3rd Ward Houston area. Since his initial involvement, he’s remained committed to this cause, finding parallels with the values instilled in him by his peers.

Following a hiatus, his return to BUG felt akin to returning to a personal Garden of Eden. Here, amidst the organic growth and nurturing environment, he has found solace and renewed vigor. The act of tending to the garden served as a metaphorical cleanse, purging the stresses of daily life and fostering both physical and spiritual nourishment. As BUG flourished, so did his sense of purpose and resilience, shaping him into a more resilient individual, student, and aspiring engineer prepared to navigate life's challenges.
