As a devoted member of the board of directors for Blodgett Urban Garden, Marcea Lewis embodies a deep-rooted commitment to fostering sustainable nutrition and community resilience. Originally from Chicago, Marcea recognized the importance of green spaces in enhancing city  environments and promoting food security. Her passion for environmental stewardship led her to pursue studies in public health and community nutrition, where she gained a holistic understanding of the intersection between biology, global sustainability, and environmental vitality.

With a focus on the food you put on your plate and to fuel your lives. Volunteering and eventually joining the board of directors of Blodgett Urban Garden(BUG), the mission was a natural extension of Marcea's values and expertise. Drawing upon her background, she plays a pivotal role in crafting initiatives to enrich  the Third Ward and TSU community with access to fresh, locally grown produce. Marcea holds a Bachelor's degree in biology from Spelman College and a Masters of Public Health from the Gillings School of Public Health at The University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Through innovative programming and strong partnerships with local businesses and community organizations, Marcea strives to help create a thriving ecosystem that not only nourishes bodies but also strengthens social bonds and empowers residents to lead healthier, more sustainable lifestyles.

Outside of her board responsibilities, Marcea works at the Houston Health Department as an Environmental Investigator. She is the co-founder and culinary nutrition manager of micro grocery store Southside Market in Chicago Illinois. Through educational workshops, food demonstrations and counseling, and community outreach efforts, she works tirelessly to address systemic barriers to food sovereignty and promote inclusive, environmentally sustainable solutions. Marcea's unwavering dedication to building resilient communities and fostering a greener, more equitable future continues to inspire positive change, making her a driving force in the urban gardening movement
